Custom Order: Basic Dry Start Method Aquarium for a Betta Fish

At our shop, we take immense pride in crafting unique, customized aquariums tailored to our customers’ visions. One of our recent creations embodies a harmonious blend of natural hardscape and vibrant aquatic plant life, creating an underwater oasis that is both visually stunning and biologically balanced.

This custom build features:

  • Seiryu Rocks – The dramatic and rugged textures of these iconic aquarium stones create a naturalistic aquascape, providing a strong focal point and structure for the plants.

  • Monte Carlo Carpeting Plant – This lush, low-growing plant forms a vibrant green carpet across the substrate, adding depth and softness to the overall layout.

  • Fern (Microsorum species) – Offering height and structure, the fern is strategically placed atop Seiryu rocks, bringing an organic and wild feel to the aquascape.

  • Alternanthera Reineckii – With its striking reddish hues, this plant provides a rich contrast against the greens of Monte Carlo and other foliage.

  • Rotala Rotundifolia Colorata – A delicate yet fast-growing stem plant, its subtle red and orange tones add warmth and movement to the aquascape.

  • Ludwigia Glandulosa – Another standout red plant, Ludwigia glandulosa introduces further texture and visual variety.

  • Hygrophila Lancea – With its slender, deep green leaves, this plant contributes to the midground structure and blends beautifully with the surrounding species.

  • Fluval Stratum Substrate – A nutrient-rich base that supports plant health and encourages robust root growth.

The Design Process

The process of bringing this aquarium to life was meticulous, requiring careful planning, patience, and creativity. The layout was designed to provide a natural flow, guiding the eye from the towering Seiryu rocks down to the soft carpet of Monte Carlo.

The hardscape was arranged to create natural pathways and depth, ensuring that each plant had adequate room to thrive while also enhancing the aesthetics. Careful consideration was given to plant placement, with taller species positioned at the back and midground, creating a natural gradient that mimics the complexity of wild aquatic ecosystems.

Supervised by Our Resident Expert, Lily the Bearded Dragon

As always, our in-house quality control officer, Lily the Bearded Dragon, kept a watchful eye on the entire process. With her keen observational skills, she ensured that every rock was in its rightful place and that no plant was left unattended. Her expert supervision (and occasional head tilts of approval) made sure this aquascape met our high standards before we handed it over to its new owner.

The Waiting Period: Ensuring Stability

While the aquarium may look complete, we believe in delivering not just a visually appealing aquascape but a thriving, stable ecosystem. That’s why we keep each custom build in our care for at least two months before delivery. During this time, we:

  • Monitor water parameters, ensuring ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels remain optimal.

  • Encourage plant establishment, allowing roots to anchor and growth to flourish.

  • Introduce beneficial bacteria, promoting a balanced nitrogen cycle.

  • Perform routine checks to adjust lighting, CO2 levels, and nutrient dosing.

  • Watch for any signs of algae growth and ensure proper maintenance protocols are in place.

Final Thoughts

This aquarium is not just a beautiful display; it’s a carefully curated ecosystem designed to thrive for years to come. From the rugged elegance of Seiryu rocks to the lush greenery and rich red hues of the plant selection, every detail has been thoughtfully crafted to create a breathtaking underwater landscape.

With the seal of approval from Lily, we are confident that this aquarium will bring endless joy to its new owner. If you’re interested in a custom aquarium tailored to your vision, reach out to us today—we’d love to bring your dream aquascape to life!
